Are you who you want to be?

I had a conversation with an older gentleman and his adorable wife at the park this morning I was recording a lil video for the site when he asked me if I was talking to someone on that smartphone (she told him to mind his business lol), I explained to him what I was doing and why.

He asked if I would sit with them for a minute. She was so cute told me not to pay her crazy husband any attention, I told her it was okay I had some extra time so I sat with them.

I asked them how long they were married, he answered 63 years she said since yesterday I laughed with them both and we chatted about Chase and how playful he still is. Then Mr. Charles asked me if I was who I wanted to be. I laughed and told him it was a loaded question, when I noticed he was serious, you know the way older people get when they wanna school you on something, so I responded that I am on the road to get there but I’m not there yet.

Then Mrs. Charles asked me who did I want to be, I said patient…. She said Patient? I was like yes from the time I was a child I wanted what I wanted and I wanted it now, not later but NOW and it carried over into adulthood.

Then Mr. Charles said “Young lady, you are getting there don’t you worry. We have seen you in this park for almost 3 years and today is the first day you stopped and sat down. You always let us pet your dog then you politely pull him away and you keep moving, but today you stopped that is growth.” She chimed in, “Don’t be afraid to grow either you were given big dreams because you have the gifts to achieve them and I can tell by your eyes that you are a dreamer… don’t stop pushing sweetheart.”

Then they hugged Chase, told me they had to finish their walk and left me sitting on the bench…

There are so many lessons from that brief conversation with a couple that I’ve only said good morning too for the past 3 years… but I will reflect on one, I am thankful for their patience they waited 3 years to bless me with an encouraging word.

Are you who you want to be?
