Cocktails & Conversation: Welcome to the Cypher
An exploration of the dopeness of Black womanhood through hip-hop.
October 3, 2026 at 8pm
An intimate gathering at The Browngirl’s home
BYOB OR bring a dish OR pay $20 at the door. (it's all about adding to the community)
Good music. Even better conversations.
Hip-hop gave us language, permission, and ownership before the healing world had words for what we were experiencing.
It gave us songs we knew by heart before we understood how much of our own stories lived inside them. It gave us audacity, something to say, and a beat to say it over.
On October 3, we’re letting that music guide us into an exploration of the dopeness of Black womanhood. Our authenticity. Our influence. Our contradictions. Our joy. The things that make each of us unmistakably ourselves.
Black women are the main characters all night.
Welcome to Cocktails & Conversation, community healing that feels like a kickback.
What’s happening in the cypher?
We’re bringing together music, storytelling, laughter, and questions nobody ever thinks to ask Black women.
You’ll meet another woman and introduce her like she’s headlining. We’ll pull question cards designed like cassette tapes: Side A is the song. Side B is the remix—the question that brings it into our lives. A familiar track might unlock a memory, an unexpected conversation, or something about yourself you hadn’t thought to celebrate.
We’ll sing along, explore, and make room for different experiences of Black womanhood. You don’t need to know every lyric or have the perfect answer. Come curious. Share what feels right. Listening belongs in the cypher, too.
Dress code: The Grown-Woman Remix
Pull out the bamboo earrings, gold chains, bold colors, denim, leather, jerseys, tracksuits, and sneakers.
Give us your flyest remix of ’90s hip-hop fashion through the style you have TODAY. Bring your personality into it. The details, the combinations, the unexpected touches—that’s where the remix lives.
A special prize goes to Flyest in the Cypher: The Grown-Woman Remix Award.
The conversation doesn’t end when the music stops
You’ll receive an After Vibez digital gift with the curated playlist and the evening’s questions—including the ones we didn’t get to.
Keep a question in rotation. Revisit a song with new ears. Continue the conversation with yourself or another Black woman.
